Fan Video: Mortal Instruments Cast – Good Life

Here’s a really cute video of the cast of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones with pictures and clips from the recent MTV First Look video.  Thanks to fenblablabla for this creation!

Only a few more weeks of filming and then they’ll be done and going into post-production.  Just another step closer to completion.

Cassandra Clare Gives More Details About Her Dinner With the Cast of City of Bones

From left to right: Jemima West (Isabelle), Jamie Campbell-Bower (Jace), Lily Collins (Clary), author Cassandra Clare, Kevin Zegers (Alec), Aidan Turner (Luke), and director Harold Zwart

Cassie has finally been able to give us more details about her dinner that she had earlier this month with the cast.   She gave a brief snippet of it previously, especially in regards to Godfrey Gao’s anticipated arrival on the set.

What Cassie was able to see on the set were some of Jocelyn’s paintings, as well as some other things that she still isn’t able to share.  Here’s what else she said:

The actors were doing fight training most of the day anyway. Kevin came by to show us they’d dyed his hair black and Jemima came by to show the runes they’d painted on her. The Voyance rune was partway up her wrist so I grabbed her hand and explained how the Voyance rune goes on the back of your dominant hand, whichever one you use to hold weapons. Jemima was patient and did not hit me for manhandling her.

I mostly got to talk to the cast at dinner because the producers were being magnanimous and said, “Cassie, sit with your Shadowhunters.” It was basically all Shadowhunters because it was those members of the cast that needed to be there for fight training (minus Valentine but either Jonathan Rhys Meyers comes with built in fight training or he’s doing it later. 🙂

The cast seemed a bunch of sweet kind funny people who had obviously developed a good rapport. Lily showed me the terrifying bruises she is covered with from her fight training. They told me Jamie can do a somersault in midair and stick the landing (so I suppose there’s always the Olympics in his future.) We discussed Lily’s hair color (I like it. I never thought of Clary as having orange-red hair, but more dark red and fiery.)

When Cassie first tweeted about her dinner, she waited 5 minutes to get responses, and there were a bajillion, so as she was reading through some of them, the actors leaned in, curious to see what was being said:

Me: Um, Kevin, someone wants to know if you are as happy looking in the mirror every morning as they are looking at your face.

Aidan: Tell them for me that he is.

Aw, Aidan!  You’re so sweet!

Me: Lily, someone really loves you, and also your hair, and also Jamie.

Jamie: I am after hair?

Did I just hear Jace in my head??

Me: Someone would like you to know you are a very good-looking cast.

Aidan: It’s true, everyone is very good-looking. I mean, not me. Everyone else!

Me: Someone wants to know what your Shadowhunter gear looks like.

Kevin: My pants are very tight. I put on tight pants today, went into the fight training room, six guys punched me, and then I threw up.

Me: I am…sorry about that. Also everyone wants to know where Robbie and Godfrey are.

Kevin then asked the “Yeah, where’s my boyfriend?” question and Lily and Jamie opined that Robbie was great and had done an amazing audition, and one of them opined that he wasn’t bad-looking either but I will not say which one.

Jemima was also very pleased she had gotten Izzy’s whip to crack on the first try. She is super sweet and speaks perfect French (as I think does Kevin, or he does an amazing job of pretending) so if you’re wondering if someone tweeting is really Jemima you can always test her French. 🙂

Cassandra will get back to Toronto in September, at which time she will get to meet Robert Sheehan (Simon) and Godfrey Gao (Magnus) in person!  Can’t wait what she has to say then!

Kevin Zegers tweets while filming City of Bones

Oh Kevin, we are all so glad you are having fun!  If you aren’t already, you should follow Kevin Zegers (@kevinzegers1984) on twitter.  His tweet from this morning brightened up my day (see below).   I love seeing a member of the cast tweet now that filming has begun, and hopefully soon we will see even more actors join the fun!  Now if only Robert Sheehan would start a twitter account too…

Two More Actors Confirmed for City of Bones Characters

While it has been said that Elyas M’Barek has been confirmed for a role as a vampire, it doesn’t look to be the vampire Raphael, at least according to the official movie website.  Elyas has only been labeled as Vampire Lieutenant, so we’ll see if that changes or if Raphael still has yet to be cast.

However, we do have two that have been confirmed for named parts.

Harry Van Gorkum to play Alaric

Harry Van Gorkum will be playing the werewolf, Alaric.  Alaric plays a big part during one thrilling tense scene, but the human form of Alaric comes into play later on in the book during another particularly tense scene.   Harry has had guest roles in several TV shows (NCIS: Los Angeles, 24, Chuck), movies (The Karate Kid, Gone in 60 Seconds, Batman & Robin), as well as some voice acting for video games (Star Wars: The Old Republic, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare).

Chris Ratz to play Eric

Chris Ratz will be playing one of Simon’s bandmates and “poet,” Eric.  Chris has only recently been on the acting scene since 2005 and had a small role in the film The Incredible Hulk (the one with Edward Norton in the starring role).

City of Bones start filming in one week!

It’s so awesome that we’re finally this close to the actual thing. When filming starts, you know there will be so much more to look forward to when it comes to interviews, pictures, previews, etc. What’s also awesome is the great  invention that is Twitter. We get to stalk most of the cast (not all of them have an account – phooey!) as they film this. It’s going to be such an awesome experience. We already know that the cast is pretty great, so I can’t wait until we get to interact with them more.

Speaking of Twitter, Kevin Zegers (who is our official Alex Lightwood) tweeting something this morning!

Exciting? Yes. Prep for the film that we’ve all been waiting ages for. Lily and Jamie (Clary and Jace) are already in Toronto working on stunt training. It’s great to see all of these little pieces start to come together! It’s happening!

Kevin Zegers to Portray Alec Lightwood?

It looks like City of Bones may have found it’s Alec! According to reports it’s looking like actor Kevin Zegers may have landed the role.  See excerpt from Cinema Blend below!

The Mortal Instruments series follows Clary Fray, a modern-day teen who learns she’s the descendent of a long line of demon hunters. She’s soon drawn into a dangerous world she didn’t know existed. If all goes as planned, the film will arrive in theaters next August (8/23/2013). Today Just Jared reported that Kevin Zegers has been cast in the role of Alec in the film. Like Clary and Jace, Alec Lightwood is a Shadowhunter. He’s also the sibling of Isabelle, who – according to what author Cassandra Clare posted on her blog last month – is set to be played by French actress Jemima West (The Borgias). Clare has yet to post an update commenting on Zegers’ casting, but assuming it’s all set in stone, it seems likely that she’ll weigh in on this update soon enough.

So, assuming this is a done deal, what do you think of Kevin as Alec?  Good choice?  Let us know!
