Clockwork Princess cover questions

Cassandra Clare has answered some of our questions about the newly released cover.

On what Tessa is holding:

What is Tessa holding? Tessa is holding the Codex.

Can you get a snippet? Yes, I’ll post a snippet. Lot going on. Be patient!

The setting in Clockwork Princess remains the United Kingdom, with mentions of some more faraway places.

I can’t reveal models’ names, as usual, but her dress isn’t available for purchase; it was borrowed for the shoot from a costume collection. It’s beautiful, no? Clearly an evening dress. Victorian evening dresses were shockingly low cut. Footmen sometimes had to help ladies out with wardrobe malfunctions.

On the missing jade green pendant (from Jem to Tessa):

Goodness, my sharp-eyed darlins! Something I never even noticed till you guys pointed it out. Tessa on the cover here isn’t supposed to represent specifically Clockwork Princess Tessa, but Tessa throughout the series, so I never thought of specifying she be wearing/carrying the things she has solely in Clockwork Princess. Tessa’s dress design, what she’s wearing, all were done by the artist without input from me. And he hadn’t read Clockwork Princess, because it hadn’t been written. He was going off the other two books. No engagement ring (well, there isn’t one in the book anyway, the pendant stands in for it) and no pendant doesn’t mean anything, one way or another.

On the background of the cover:

Tessa is standing in front of Blackfriars Bridge and St. Paul’s cathedral. I just checked back in Clockwork Prince and yep, she never gets an engagement ring except in the scene where they go to York, but she gives it back. Just to say!

On cover compliments:

I can’t take credit for the covers. Cliff gets credit for those. He does a beautiful job. I did want a cover that could represent the whole series and more — I often give Cliff notes about sort of the theme I want the cover to represent and with this one I talked about how Tessa’s love of books weaves through the series and how literature is really magic to her.

Anyway, I love the cover. It really is probably my favorite so far. I am glad you guys love it too.
I, for one, wish the dress was for sale. However that’s just me! So what do you guys think?
Thanks to TMI Source for this one!

Clockwork Princess teaser

There has been another Clockwork Princess teaser released by Cassandra Clare and this one makes you desperate to read more. It’s going to be hard waiting for nine months with these little excerpts coming out and taunting us. In this teaser it seems Tessa almost confessed something, but what is it she almost confessed?

Tessa put a hand against the wall as she made her way numbly down the stairs. What had she almost done? What had she nearly told Will?

Thanks to TMI source for this one!

New Clockwork Princess snippet!

Cassandra Clare has to be one of the kindest authors ever! As we were all a little disappointed at not hearing who will play Alec in City of Bones, she has given us a little snippet of Clockwork Princess to keep us happy till then.

Here it is, it’s between the two best friends Jem and Will.

Will rose slowly to his feet. He could not believe he was doing what he was doing, but it was clear that he was, clear as the silver rim around the black of Jem’s eyes. “If there is a life after this one,” he said, “let me meet you in it, James Carstairs.”

“There will be other lives.” Jem held his hand out, and for a moment, they clasped hands, as they had done during their parabatai ritual, reaching across twin rings of fire to interlace their fingers with each other. “The world is a wheel,” he said. “When we rise or fall, we do it together.”

Will tightened his grip on Jem’s hand, which felt thin as twigs in his. “Well, then,” he said, through a tight throat, “since you say there will be another life for me, let us both pray I do not make as colossal a mess of it as I have this one.”

Thanks to The Mortal Instruments Source (TMI source for short) for this snippet.
